The only flower is a documentary by César Pérez Herranz dedicated to the impact of Chinese urban planning on the ancient Qianmen hutong of Beijing: a history framed by the processes of gentrification and commodifiaction of the historical centre of the Chinese capital, which is being converted in a totally sterile and touristic area. Simmetrically, this short film documents the growing use, in the old Beijing hutongs, of artificial flowers and plants in substitution of real ones: just like with new commercial buildings built with fake historical facades, also with flowers, appearance is what really matters.
